چکیده

The effect of beta-adrenergic blockade with oxprenolol upon adrenaline-induced relaxation of strips of human sigmoid colon was investigated. Following blockade of beta-adrenoceptors with oxprenolol, adrenaline evoked dose-dependent contractions of both longitudinal and circular muscle strips. Storage of the tissues for periods up to 24 hours at 4 degrees C did not modify the responses to adrenaline. Furthermore, the contractions induced by adrenaline following oxprenolol were significantly diminished by the addition of phentolamine, an alpha-adrenoceptor blocking agent. Our results would suggest that oxprenolol has the property of unmasking or revealing alpha receptors responsible for the excitatory effects of adrenaline upon isolated strips of human colon.

Effect of adrenaline and nor adrenaline on isolated rat ureter preparations.

The effect of adrenaline and nor-adrenaline on the spontaneously contracting and quiescent isolated proximal and central pieces of ureters obtained from female (virgin) albino rats of the Sprague Dawley strain were studicd, Adrenaline and nor-adrenaline produced a stimulant effect on the rate and amplitude of the proximal pieces of spontaneously contracting preparations. Both these drugs induce...

Ascending excitatory neural pathways modulate slow phasic myogenic contractions in the isolated human colon.

BACKGROUND In animal models, enteric reflex pathways have potent effects on motor activity; their roles have been much less extensively studied in human gut. The aim of this study was to determine if ascending excitatory interneuronal pathways can modulate spontaneous phasic contractions in isolated preparations of human colonic circular muscle. METHODS Human colonic preparations were cut int...

MUSCARINIC RECEPTOR SUBTYPES IN SMOOTH MUSCLE FROM THE BODY OF HUMAN STOMACH

Up to date, there are four pharmacologically characterized subtypes of muscarinic receptors (M1, M2, M3 and M4). In our study we have investigated muscarinic receptor subtypes in smooth muscle layers of human stomach. Isolated preparations of longitudinal and circular muscle layers from human stomach were used. Acetylcholine, bethanechol, carbachol, pilocarpine and AHR -602 produced concen...

Effects of 4-(2-Alkylthio-1-benzyl-5-imidazolyl)-Dihydropyridines on the Isolated Rat Colon and Right Atrium Contractility

Objectives In order to provide a pharmacological profile for some newly synthesized dihydropyridines, we investigated their effects on the isolated rat colon segments and the isolated rat atrium contractility. The tested compounds include alkyl ester analogues of nifedipine, in which the ortho-nitrophenyl group at position 4 is replaced by 2-alkylthio-1-benzyl-5-imidazolyl substituent, and nif...

Effects of chronic morphine treatment on catecholamines content and mechanical response in the rat hearts.

Our investigation was aimed at elucidating if the chronic administration and withdrawal of a preferential mu-agonist, morphine, induce changes on the heart catecholaminergic neuronal activity. With this purpose the effects of morphine or naloxone (preferentially mu-antagonist) on noradrenaline, adrenaline or dopamine (DA) content and the mechanical response of the left atria were studied in chr...
